DO NOT UPGRADE TO SAGE 100 CONTRACTOR VERSION 20 AT THIS TIME if you are using Crystal Reports, Sage Estimating Standard, or other add-ons or third party-products. If you are on version 19.7, you do not need to upgrade. Please see below for additional information.
We apologize for the duplicative email, but based on continued feedback and confusion, we wanted to redistribute.
What makes version 20 different from other upgrades? Version 20 uses Microsoft SQL Server instead of the older FoxPro database.
Why did Sage make this change? Microsoft SQL Server is a more current and efficient method to store data. This will allow Sage 100 Contractor to be more efficient while running multiple users on a network (which also makes it more scalable to larger companies).
What does this mean to you?
You will login to the system a bit differently, but from there the system is much the same.
What does this mean for my IT person?
Program Administrators will experience a bit more change because the administration program is a little more complex. Most of these additional complexities are to manage the Microsoft SQL Server - the database engine. If you have internal IT, they may need help migrating your existing data to the new version. Most importantly, you need to be sure your back-up system properly supports Microsoft SQL Server.
Click here to view the system requirements. One of the significant requirements is that the server on which the program is installed cannot be the Domain Controller.
Does this integrate with my add-on products? Many add-on products are not yet compatible with the new version. If you are using Crystal Reports, Sage Estimating Standard, or other add-ons or third party-products, we recommend that you DO NOT UPGRADE TO VERSION 20 AT THIS TIME.
Don't I have to upgrade before Year-End?
If you are on version 19.7, you do not need to upgrade.
If you're not on v19.7, and you run payroll through Sage 100 Contractor, you will need to upgrade to v19.7 to ensure you have the most recent tax release.
If you do not use payroll in Sage 100 Contractor, we recommend you wait until there has been at least one major service pack released for version 20 before you upgrade, most likely before the end of 2016.
If you use Sage Estimating Standard/Extended or other add-ons or third party-products, we recommend that you upgrade to 19.7 to get through year-end.
If you recently purchased Sage 100 Contractor, or you have a very small database with no add-on tools or custom reports, upgrading to and using version 20 of the program is recommended right now.
Who should upgrade now?
If you purchased Sage 100 Contractor in the past few months, or you have a very small database with no add-on tools or custom reports, upgrading to and using version 20 of the program is recommended right now.
